Adjust the Criminal Code around Higher Crimes​

1. Short Title & Information
(a) This bill shall be referred to as the "Accountability In Government Act".
(b) This bill was authored by Lysander Lyon.
(c) The Azalea Isles Criminal Code is being amended by this bill.

2. Adjusted Penalties
(a) The crime of “Corruption” shall be amended to as follows:
(c) Corruption
(i) "Corruption" shall be defined as the act of a government official or employee abusing their position for personal gain, including but not limited to, bribery, favoritism, or misuse of government resources.
(ii) This offense shall be punishable by 30 minutes of jail time and a monetary fine of $5,000.
(iii) If the corruption is particularly severe, such as involving significant sums of money, extensive harm to the public, or abuse of high office, the fine shall be increased to up to $25,000.
(iv) Individuals found guilty of corruption shall be barred from running for office for, at minimum, one term. They may be barred from running for a longer period, depending on severity.

(b) The crime of “Bribery” shall be amended to as follows:
(d) Bribery
(i) "Bribery" shall be defined as the act of offering, giving, or receiving benefits, such as money or gifts, in exchange for influencing the actions of a government official or employee.
(ii) This offense shall be punishable by 20 minutes of jail time and a monetary fine of the monetary value of the bribe, plus 10% or $2,000, whichever is larger.
(iii) The person receiving the bribe may also be charged with bribery, although this may be labeled as “Taking Bribes.” The jail time and fine shall be the same.

(iv) The person receiving the bribe shall be charged with at least one count of corruption per count of bribery, if found guilty of bribery, as shall the individual making the bribe if they hold government office or employment.
(v) Individuals found guilty of bribery may be barred from running for office, if this is requested in the Prayer For Relief and granted in court.

3. Additional Adjustments
(a) Section 11e shall have a subsection, 11e(i), added to it, which shall state “The Statute of Limitations for Corruption, Bribery, and Treason shall be expanded to 6 months.
(b) Section 11 shall be amended to have a subsection 11f, which shall state “The Ministry of Justice shall be granted authority to amend the listed punishments for crimes not specifically established in statutory law, as part of their duties in managing the Criminal Code.
(c) Section 11 shall be amended to have a subsection 11g, which shall state “Additional punishments not specifically outlined in the crime’s section in this above Criminal Code may be requested by the Ministry of Justice in court, so long as they bear proper justification, such as an individual’s increased responsibilities as an elected official, repeated offenses, size or scale of the offense justifying an increased penalty, and so on. This includes, for example, removal from office for crimes that don't specifically list that in their penalties, or increased jail time or fines for repeat murderers.

Enactment: This Act comes into force immediately upon passage.
